Help: Editing
From the ProvenHand pipeline wiki
The pipeline wiki is a page for every job: who built it, where it ran, and who worked it. It's written and kept up by the hands who were there. The project list started from public records (FERC filings, the operators, contractors' own project lists and trade press), and every one of those facts carries its source.
Who can edit
- Any hand with a job on that project that a coworker has confirmed.
- Any hand with three or more confirmed jobs, on any project.
- ProvenHand staff and wiki moderators. They can also lock a page while a dispute gets sorted out, and they look over every edit: they approve it or undo it.
Any other hand with a profile can suggest a change from the same edit form. A moderator looks at it, and once it's approved it goes on the page with your name in the history. Everyone can read every page, its sources and its full history. To edit directly, add your jobs to your work history and ask someone who was there to confirm them.
What belongs on a page
- What you saw first-hand: spreads, crossings, HDDs, camps, weather, how the job went.
- Facts you can back up with a source: a filing, a press release, a contractor's project page.
- Not: rumors about people, pay, or anything you wouldn't say with your name on it. Your name shows in the history.
Systems, facilities and companies
The wiki also has pages for the pipeline systems, facilities and companies behind the jobs, and project pages carry the same kind of facts: status, dockets, owners, contractors, spreads and crossings. Those come only from public sources (FERC, EIA, PHMSA, state agencies, industry lists like PLCA's and API's, and the companies' own pages), and every fact shows the sources behind it as numbered references.
- When two sources give different values for the same fact, the page lists every value with its own source under Sources disagree and doesn't pick one.
- Dates show only as much as the source gives: a year, a month, or a day.
- Costs and capacities read the way the source reported them.
- Work is credited to the company that did it, under the name it went by then. A company's page shows what it came from and what it became.
- Company pages are edited like project pages: a hand with a job for that outfit that a coworker has confirmed, or three or more confirmed jobs anywhere, can edit the write-up, legal name, website, headquarters and regions; anyone else with a profile can suggest a change. The filed facts stay as their sources give them. Every save is a version in the page history.

History and mistakes
Every save is a new version. The View history tab lists them all with who made each change and their summary; (prev) shows what one edit changed and (cur) compares a version with today's page. A hand who can edit can restore any older version, which becomes the newest version, so nothing is ever deleted. See Recent changes for every edit across the wiki.
